Ajax and Borussia Mönchengladbach have reached agreement about the loan and transfer of Wesley Sonck. The Belgian striker moves to the German club immediately.
The loan period to Borussia Mönchengladbach runs to 1 July 2005. Subsequently, Sonck will be transferred to the club of coach Dick Advocaat definitively, unless Borussia Mönchengladbach should relegate at the end of the season. In that case the German club has the possibility to cancel the transfer.Wesley Sonck was born on 9 August 1978 in Ninove (Belgium). From local side VK Ninove he made his debut in the Belgian premier league in 1997. After two seasons RWD Molenbeek, one season Germinal Ekeren and one season Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen, he joined Racing Genk in 2000. He signed a contract for Ajax in 2003, tying him to the club through 2008.
Sonck made his debut in Ajax 1 on 12 August 2003 in the away match against Grazer AK. The striker scored his first goal a month later, on 13 September 2003, in home match against RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie. The 26-year old Belgian played a total of 45 official matches for Ajax and he scored 15 goals for the club.
Sonck made his debut for the Belgian national team on 2 June 2001. He has earned 34 caps for Belgium and has scored 14 goals for his country. Two years ago he was voted 'Red Devil of the year 2003'.
